Your information, and how we handle it.
Effective date: August 12, 2026
Friends With Purpose ("FWP," "we," "us," or "our") provides free, one-on-one financial education to individuals and families across Fairfield County, Connecticut. This policy explains what information we collect when you interact with us (by text, call, email, our website, our Client Portal, or our optional financial well-being survey), how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have.
We built this program to help people, not to profit from their data. We collect the minimum information needed to run real sessions and follow up with you, and we never sell your information.
Information we collect
Information you give us directly
- Reaching out to us: If you text, call, or email us to set up a session or ask a question, we see your name, phone number, and/or email address, along with whatever you tell us.
- Client Portal account: If you create a dashboard in our Client Portal, we collect your name and email address to set up your account, assign you a coach, and track your progress through our financial education material.
- Session requests: When you request a session through the portal, we collect your name, email, preferred contact method and value (phone or email), preferred times, the topic you want help with, and any notes you add.
- Messages: If you message your coach through the portal, we store the content of those messages so your coach can respond and so there's a record of your conversation.
- Goals & progress: Goals you set and courses/tools you complete in the portal are saved to your account so you (and your coach) can track progress over time.
The optional financial well-being survey
Separately, we offer an optional self-service diagnostic survey about your financial situation and well-being. Before you answer any questions, we ask you to choose whether your anonymous answers can be used to help us understand our community's needs. That choice is entirely yours, it does not affect the help you receive, and it is asked again, separately, each time. If you say yes, only de-identified, aggregated responses (never tied to your name) may be used for that purpose, including as anonymized input to academic research on economic well-being that FWP contributes to.
Information collected automatically
We do not use cookies, advertising trackers, or third-party analytics on this site. The Client Portal uses your browser's local storage to keep you signed in and to cache your dashboard so it loads quickly; that data lives on your own device and is not a tracking technology.
How we use your information
- To schedule, run, and follow up on your one-on-one financial education sessions
- To match you with a coach and track your goals and progress in the Client Portal
- To respond to your questions and requests
- To improve our programs, flyers, and session materials based on what we're seeing
- Only with your separate, explicit consent: to contribute de-identified, aggregated survey data to research on economic well-being conducted with our academic research partners
How we store & share your information
Client Portal and session-request data is stored in Google Sheets, managed through Google Apps Script (Google Workspace), a third-party service that acts as our data processor. Access is limited to FWP's founders and coaches.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with third parties for marketing or advertising. We may share information in a few limited cases:
- With our academic research partners, but only as de-identified, aggregated data, and only if you separately consented to that use in the survey
- With our hosting and infrastructure providers (like Google) solely to operate the services described above
- If required by law, or to protect the safety of you, our staff, or the public
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your Client Portal account is active or as needed to provide our services and maintain accurate records of our nonprofit's work. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see "Your choices" below).
Your choices
- Access, correct, or delete your data: Email us at fwpurposeorg@gmail.com and we'll take care of it.
- Opt out of research use: If you consented to anonymous research use of your survey answers and change your mind, contact us and we will not include your future or past responses.
- Stop being contacted: Reply "stop" to any text, or just tell us, and we'll stop reaching out.
Children's privacy
Our services are intended for adults and are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including limiting who has access to it. That said, no method of storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our programs grow. If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above. Continued use of our services after a change means you accept the updated policy.
